When you are looking for jobs for 17 year olds you are competing with older workers now than before this financial crisis. Older teens can do most any job but so many people with families have lost their jobs that they need any kind of work they can get. This means older and experienced workers are routinely now taking jobs that they would have never dreamed of taking a year ago. Now they are taking the jobs that once were largely done by teenagers.

When you get to the point where high school graduation is near, you need to start thinking about getting a job or applying to colleges. Right now, jobs for 17 year olds are scarce because of the economy and so college is a great option. Although college is usually the right course of action, it is not for everyone and this makes it very hard for those that have no desire to further their studies. Getting a job for older teens is sometimes the right choice rather than going on to college and this type of teen needs to have an extra amount of patience right now during their job hunt.
