Compiled of 64 squares (with eight rows by 8), switching between white and black, a chess board provides the analogical battleground on which participants maneuver. From here, chess players are able to design their approaches, protect their king, and guard their earth.

At the start of each game, chess pieces are placed at the upper and lower rows. From these starting positions, strategies and maneuvers evolve. Played between 2 opponents, chess is basically a battle between two armies. The chess pieces equate to that of a medieval arming, equipped with a king, a queen, two bishops, 2 knights, two rooks, and 8 pawns.
